You can use a container with lid as the natsume, tea container.
This is a Matcha tea can decorated with the masking tape.

You can use a tea spoon as the chashaku, tea scoop.

How to fold a CHAKIN

The chakin is used for wiping a chawan and is made of hemp.

You can use paper towel instead of chakin.

Wet slightly before folding.

How to fold a FUKUSA

The fukusa is used for purifying utensils and is made of silk cloth, about 11inches square.
Usually we fold the fukusa in front of guests.
But It's a bit difficult.

Let’s fold It in advance.
You can use a handkerchief instead of the fukusa.

Let’s make delicious Matcha tea




The points to make delicious Matcha tea

* Warm a chawan well.

* Soften a chasen in the hot water.

* Wipe the chawan with a chakin well.

* Put two spoons Matcha(about 1.5g) in the chawan.

* Pour hot water(about 85℃、100cc) in the chawan.

* Mix  Mactha and hot water with the chasen until it becomes creamy.

Preparation for Otemae

Let’s prepare utensils using things near to you.
And prepare Maccha tea and a chasen (tea whisk).

Tea pot as a tetsubin iron ketle

Cup as a chawan tea bowl

Container with lid as a natsume tea container

Tea spoon as a chashaku tea scoop

Paper towel as a chakin cloth to wipe a chawan

Handkerchief as a fukusa silk cloth to purify utensils
 
Cup as a kensui waste water container
 
 


Otemae

Otemae means special procedures for making Maccha tea in front of guests.

Yes, it’s not easy.

But you can concentrate on doing it.

This is important.
